Under The Same moon

1.I think the main reasons Rosario leaves Carlitos with his grandmother was so she would be able to make more money. I think that she was also trying to provide for her mother who was ill.
2.I think that Rosario had to make the difficult decision because she was the strong woman that had to support the family. she was not married, her mother was ill, and she had a son that she loves dearly and she had to support him. I feel that alot of women are left to raise children on their own without the help of the father. Rosario had to be the bread winner and try to provide for the family. she had to go where she felt she had the best opportunity for income to try to get enough money to bring Carlitos to the US so they could be reunited.

3.First of all i feel that Carlitos had many problems not living with his mother. first of all he was 4 years old when she left, so he was not able to understand. i think that even though he had his loving grandmother it's still not the same as your own mother. he had no idea who his father was or where he was. only his mother could have explained this to him. he has had to have heartache at such a young age.
Rosario faced the problems of missing him so much and only wanting so badly to earn enough money to get her son to the US to be with him.

4. I can only speak for myself to say that as a mother of four I would go to the ends of the earth or work anywhere for them. no matter where a mother is from she will do whatever it takes for her children if she is a good one. I also feel fortunate to live in the US>

  1. I agree with your comments about Rosario and her being a strong woman. She is an amazing character. To have the courage and strength to leave your four year old behind hoping to be able to provide a better life for him and reunite with him in a country with such opportunity is very brave.
Carlos was forced to grow up quickly. He took on the role of an adult and cared for his grandmother and worked to help provide a better life. He loved his mother and even though he did not have her there with him I think he believed she was doing this for him. That is until his father's brother told him she wasn't coming back. He became confused and angry, as any child would.
I also agree with your comment of going to the ends of the earth for your children. I feel women of any country want to provide for their children at any lengths.

  2. I think you bring up a good comment in saying you feel fortunate to live in the US. I think we take for granted the things that we have in the US. I could never imagine living any where but here. There are so many opportunities with education, jobs, assistance programs, and living in a country that has freedom. I couldn't imagine my child having to sell gum on the streets for money. It is mind blowing to think about. I am thankful every morning that I wake up here and don't have to fear for my life or my freedom. I don't have to worry about where my next meal will come from. We are all very fortunate to be born in the US.
